babymoon (n):: what we did this weekend
We had a babymoon weekend getaway planned for this past weekend for several months now, and next to the birth of our baby, we’ve been looking forward to it more than anything else! The last few months have seemed really busy with a lot of trips and things going on, so taking some time to relax and get away together was perfect. And there will never be an easier time than now for a romantic vacation!
We spent the weekend in Rochester, which is only an hour or so away from us. I’m totally traveled out these days, and so we knew we didn’t want to book a vacation that forced us to travel far. Rochester is a fun city with a lot to do and see and shop, and it worked perfectly for our little weekend. Ben’s work had gifted us a B & B gift certificate at Christmas (thanks, guys!), so we used that to stay at the gorgeous Ellwanger Estate…it was the most beautiful place! This was our first time staying at a real bed and breakfast, and since the main focus of our weekend was to eat good food + relax + have quality time together, the Ellwanger was the perfect place to have all of those. Our host, Rosemary, was the sweetest soul, and treated us like royalty with gourmet breakfast spreads, unending coffee and tea, and even baked us cupcakes to wish us a happy weekend.
Besides spending a lot of time sleeping in and lazying around, we did a little shopping (during which i made the colossal mistake of walking into babygap, and thereby walking out with a few irresistible items #justdontgointobabygap) and dining and coffee-ing. We had dinner at a new-to-us Indian restaurant on Friday night, and then had to browse the international food market that was right next door. I found a few things for the kitchen (date molasses, anyone?) and we couldn’t resist sharing a small square of homemade baklava from the little cafe inside. We also had to hit up Pour Coffee for some super-yum drinks and a vegan chocolate donut to share (in ben’s word:: if it’s vegan, it’s basically like eating a salad, right?).
It really was a perfect weekend away, and now we are settling in for the next weeks of nesting and waiting for baby. It can’t come soon enough for us.
What about you: what was special about your weekend? Do you baby moon?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
