I’ve discovered that I have two love languages that fill up my little heart tank to overflowing…quality time and breakfast. And give me both in one setting and I’m the most loved person on the planet!
It’s kind of our weekly weekend tradition to go out as a family on Saturday mornings for breakfast, and then we often end up making a few stops at places like Costco, Trader Joe’s or the farmer’s market to get food for the week. And now that Ayla is older, we usually try to do something fun for her on our outings…which is usually just something as simple as a stop at the mall for a carousel ride or playing at the park for a few minutes or a ride in the “fun cart” at Whole Foods. You know you love your child when you let yourself drive one of those beasts around a store!
This past weekend, we ended up at Dozen Bakery (we often do, hehe), which is probably my all-time favorite breakfast spot in all of Nashville. It’s a small little cafe with a small selection of menu items, but just always so full of quality flavors. Their breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs, house-made pesto, roasted tomatoes, and added avocado is often my order, and always accompanied by a cup or two of coffee and a pastry on the side. Ayla always knows she has to eat her eggs before she can eat her pastry, and usually we end with a chocolate or almond croissant or two to share…but this time she wanted a blueberry muffin, which was delicious.
I feel like some of Ben and I’s best conversations are had over hot coffee and breakfast, and we usually let Ayla down to walk around and watch out the windows once she is done eating so we can get in some quality chatting. There are often people sitting outside with a dog or two, so that often keeps her occupied for a few extra minutes. Those mornings out with my little family are the highlights of my week, for sure.
