It’s that Christmas time of year again, and I for one could not be happier. If I haven’t mentioned before, I love-love-love Christmas. It’s not allowed to start until after Thanksgiving, but once it’s here, it’s gung-ho all things Christmas for this girl. I love everything about the holiday: the music, decor, gifts, gatherings, programs, the feeling in the air.
We put up our tree a few nights ago and it instantly makes everything so cozy and festive. We had the big real vs. faux debate for a few weeks, but eventually decided to make an investment into a faux one that we can use for several years. It’s perhaps not quite as romantic and true as a live tree, but I actually really like it. I wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out or what style and colors I wanted, but we ended up sticking with lights and white. Maybe when we have kiddos we’ll branch out into something more colorful but for now we’re sticking with the basics.
I found some white felt ornaments at Hobby Lobby and some feathery ones at Wal-Mart {those are my fave}. But I have to say my absolute favorite part of the tree is….
…our little squirrel tree-topper! We spotted him at Target and couldn’t resist, although we weren’t planning on using him for a topper at that point. I think he’s perfect.
I love Christmas decorating, but I also don’t like to spend a lot of money on seasonal decorations. I went out foraging the other day and brought in a ton of greenery which is now spread throughout the house.
Sometimes the simplest things look the best. I admire people who can put a lot of things and colors together and make it look amazing, but I don’t have have that ability. It’s best for me to stick with minimal and basic colors and design. Otherwise I start feeling overwhelmed and second-guessing whether it looks really good or just plain odd. Simple is good for me, and I’m ok with that.
What about you: what do you like to decorate with? What are your tips and ideas for seasonal + frugal decorating?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I like your style – simple. It's so much less complicated yet with the right touch can be so beautiful. That's what I tend to go for, IF I get any decorating done! 🙁

Thanks, Doris! Decorating definitely isn't my forte, but it is fun when you're in the mood. 🙂
